Key data findings

  • As of December 2024, Medicaid provides healthcare coverage for about 26% (3 million) of Ohioans, including children, pregnant women, older adults, people with disabilities and adults with low incomes.
  • As of December 2024, there were nearly 1.62 million people enrolled in the Covered Families and Children (CFC) eligibility category, and more than seven in 10 of them (72%) were children
  • In state fiscal year 2024, federal and state expenditures on Medicaid were nearly $39 billion, with 69% coming from the federal government.
  • Due to factors such as widespread job loss and increased understanding of the need for healthcare coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic, Medicaid enrollment is 9% higher than it was before the pandemic began (from February 2020 to December 2024).
  • A state’s Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) rate can range from a floor of 50% to a ceiling of 83%. Ohio’s current FMAP rate is 64.6% for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2025.
