Study: Ohio has sixth lowest Medicare Advantage costs in U.S.

A national survey released late last month determined that Ohio has the sixth-lowest Medicare Advantage costs in the country (Source: “Report: Medicare costs rank sixth lowest in Ohio,” Cincinnati Enquirer, Dec. 29, 2018).

According to HealthMarkets’ Medicare Advantage Costs Index, Ohio’s Medicare costs are:

  •  Total average cost: $5,749.93

    •    Average cost of drug deductibles: $125.26
    •    Average maximum out-of-pocket: $4,852.40

The index also looks at how 2019 costs compare to 2018 costs and ranks states by the difference. Ohio saw a $248.76 decrease in costs compared to 2018 which translates to a 4.15% decrease – making it the state with the 6th largest decrease in cost.

The report found that Nevada had the lowest  average cost at $4,678.74 and Mississippi had the highest average cost at $7,451.04.
