State survey finds uninsured rate drops dramatically in Ohio

A new report commissioned by the Ohio Department of Medicaid found that the state’s uninsured rate has dropped to 8.7 percent, down from 17.3 percent in 2012 (Source: “Ohio's rate of uninsured residents cut in half, state says,” Cleveland Plain Dealer, Aug. 19, 2015).

The Ohio Medicaid Assessment Survey also found that the uninsured rate for children in Ohio dropped from 4.7 percent three years ago to 2 percent now.

"This is something we expected to see, but not at this rate," said John McCarthy, director of the Ohio Department of Medicaid. "This is a huge decrease in the uninsured rate."
