Most American support more gov’t intervention in drug prices, poll finds

Regardless of political affiliation, Americans strongly support government action to control prescription drug costs, according to a poll released Thursday (Source: “Poll: Most Americans want gov't to curb prescription costs,” Associated Press via Modern Healthcare, Aug. 20, 2015).

The latest Kaiser Family Foundation Health Tracking Poll suggests the public’s attention is shifting away from the ACA to other health care issues.

Overall, 72 percent said the cost of prescription medications is unreasonable. Large majorities support requiring pharmaceutical companies to disclose how they set prices (86 percent); allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices on behalf of beneficiaries (83 percent); limiting what drug companies can charge for medications to treat serious illnesses (76 percent); and allowing consumers to get prescriptions filled by pharmacies in Canada (72 percent).
