State reports 54k newly eligible have enrolled in Medicaid

New data released this week by the Ohio Department of Medicaid showed that as of the end of February, 54,031 newly eligibility Ohioans had signed up for coverage in the two months since expanded eligibility has been in effect (Source:  “More than 50,000 Ohioans sign up under Medicaid expansion,” Mansfield News Journal, March 12, 2014). 

The state’s monthly caseload report also indicated that, as of Monday, 181,499 applications — including those from people who were previously eligible but unenrolled in Medicaid — have been received through the state’s new website, ohio.benefits.gov, since it launched Oct. 1. State officials indicated that more than 75 percent of the applications have been processed.
