National ACA enrollment hits 3 million, HHS official announces

The number of people enrolled in private health insurance through the ACA has increased by more than one-third in recent weeks to around 3 million, according to government data released on Friday (Source: “Obamacare coverage enrollment hits three million: official,” Reuters, Jan. 24, 2014).

Marilyn Tavenner, administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), announced the preliminary count in a blog posting. She forecast that enrollment through new federal and state health insurance marketplaces would continue to grow in coming weeks as a public outreach campaign accelerates.

Analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation of federal data up to Jan.13 found that 39,955 Ohioans had enrolled in coverage through the federally facilitated marketplace, or about 4.9 percent of the estimated 812,000 Ohioans eligible for marketplace coverage.
