Poll finds fewer Ohioans getting insurance through employer

Although most Ohioans continue to get health coverage through their employer, the percentage continues to decline, according to the latest Ohio Health Issues Poll (Source: “Fewer Ohioans have insurance from employer,” Cincinnati Enquirer Daily Dose blog, July 22, 2013).

According to the telephone poll, which involved interviews with a random sample of 868 adults from across the state, 52 percent of Ohioans now get employer-provided insurance. In 2006, 64 percent of Ohioans got coverage through work.

The poll also found that 20 percent of Ohioans now receive public insurance from Medicare, Medicaid, veterans benefits or a combination of the three. That is up from 12 percent who received public coverage in 2006.

The Ohio Health Issues poll is sponsored by the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati and is conducted by researchers at the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati.
