Study: ACA may not lead to as many new Medicaid enrollees as originally projected

A new study from the Cleveland-based Center for Community Solutions estimates that the number of Ohioans currently eligible for Medicaid who will enroll because of the ACA is nearly half of previous estimates  (Source: "Latest survey on Medicaid expansion may calm state’s nerves," Columbus Dispatch, Dec. 15, 2012).

According to the CCS report (pdf, 8 pages), the state should anticipate that an additional 178,000 individuals currently eligible for Medicaid will enroll in the program as a result of the ACA. That number is significantly lower than previous state estimates of between 250,000 and 319,000 new enrollees.

The analysis is based on data from the US Census Bureau and the Ohio Family Health Survey.
