HPIO releases Health Data Transparency Basics

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio has released a new publication -– Health Data Transparency Basics (pdf, 16 pages).

Modeled after HPIO’s popular Ohio Medicaid Basics publication, Health Data Transparency Basics provides an overview of the availability of transparent, accessible health data and how access to information on price and quality impacts consumer choice, quality of care, health care spending and health outcomes.

Other topics included in the document are:

  • Federal and state roles and activities in support of greater health data transparency
  • The data transparency needs and concerns of a variety of stakeholders
  • Health plan efforts to respond to the call for greater transparency.  The document also includes a list of public and private sources for health care cost and quality data.

Developing tools for improved Ohio health system data transparency is one of four strategic objectives included in HPIO’s three year strategic plan for informing health policy development in Ohio.
