Report: Fewer uninsured Ohio children

According to a national report released this week, 23,200 fewer Ohio children were uninsured in 2010 compared to 2008, dropping the state’s child uninsured rate from 6.8 percent to 6.0 percent (Source: “Report: Childrens' coverage varies widely by state,” The Hill Healthwatch Blog, Nov. 29, 2011).

The report (pdf, 9 pages), which was published by the Georgetown Center for Children and Families, found that uninsured rates for children varies greatly from state to state, with the highest rates found in the West and South and the lowest in the Northeast and Midwest.

The study found that in 2010, the national uninsured rate for children was 8 percent (down from 9.3 percent in 2008). Massachusetts had the lowest rate, at 1.7 percent, and Nevada had the highest rate at 17.4 percent.
