Report: Ohio 29th for child well-being

An annual report on the health and well-being of children in the United States ranks Ohio 29th (Source: “Ohio ranks 29th in children’s well-being,” Dayton Daily News, Aug. 17, 2011)

According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s 2011 Kids Count Data Book, nearly 300,000 children in Ohio, or 11 percent,  lived with at least one unemployed parent in 2010.“This data is just reflective of what’s happening nationwide, statewide and locally,” said Ann Stevens, spokeswoman for Montgomery County Job and Family Services. As funding for critical family services is cut, families are forced to make tough choices, she said. “Children are the most vulnerable and in ways the poorest people in our society.”
