New data shows Cincinnati hospitals make marked quality improvements

Data released this week by the Greater Cincinnati Health Council found that hospitals in the Cincinnati area showed dramatic improvement in meeting quality guidelines for treating hearth attack, hearth failure and pneumonia patients (Source: “Cincinnati hospitals greatly improve treatment for major conditions,” [Cincinnati] Business Courier, April 19, 2011).

Using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Hospital Compare and from the Ohio Hospital Association, the Health Council reported that the percentage of eligible patients receiving all recommended care measures for congestive heart failure jumped from 62 percent in 2005 to 92 percent in 2009; from 82 percent to 95 percent for heart attacks and from 64 percent to 89 percent for pneumonia.
The data is available at a special section of the Health Council’s website.
