Report: Nonfatal falls cost Ohio $6.2 billion a year

A new report from the Office of Healthy Ohio has found that in Ohio hospital-admitted falls cost more than $6.2 billion a year in medical costs, lost wages and decreased quality of life (“ODH report: Nonfatal falls cost Ohioans $6.2 billion annually,” Wilmington News Journal Nov. 28).

The report, titled The Burden of Injury from Unintential Falls in Ohio, 2002-2005, analyzed data from the Ohio Hospital Association and found that falls result in $488 million in medical costs, $526 million in lost wages and $5.2 billion in decreased quality of life.
