CDC: Ohio’s obesity rate at 28.1 percent, 17th highest in nation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its 2007 annual report on obesity in the United States  and Ohio ranks 17th in the nation with  28.1 percent of residents self-reporting that they are obese (Source: “More Americans getting very fat,” Akron Beacon-Journal, July 18, 2008).

The 2007 national average of obese adults was 25.6 percent, up from 23.9 percent in 2005. Alabama, Mississipi and Tennessee had the highest obesity rate with more than 30 percent of the population of each state reporting that they were obese.

Colorado had the lowest obesity rate at 19.3 percent.
