HPIO to host forum on reducing the growth of health spending featuring Karen Davis

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio and the Ohio Business Roundtable are hosting a policy forum entitled "Bending the Curve: Options for Achieving Savings and Improving Value in U.S. Spending" on May 1st.  The featured speaker will be Karen Davis, President of the Commonwealth Fund.  The forum's goal is to generate learning and dialogue on the Commonwealth Fund's Commission on a High Performance Health System report which identifies 15 federal policy options that "have the potential to lower health spending relative to projected trends," by an estimated $1.5 trillion over 10 years.

Following Karen Davis's presentation, Richard Stoff, president and CEO of the Ohio Business Roundtable, will discuss the BRT's diagnostic and benchmarking initiative of the Ohio health system. Emerging from the diagnostic are 18 improvement opportunities for health systems reform to improve the health of Ohioans and to increase quality and access of health care delivery while at the same time bending the curve in health spending in our state. As a point of departure for the ensuing discussion and Q&A, he will provide a cross walk between the work of the BRT and the Commonwealth Fund and assert that "significant health systems reform is well within reach for us as Ohioans without our waiting for Washington to act."

The forum will take place at Landmark's Event Place at South Campus Gateway located at 1550 North High Street in Columbus from 12:00 to 2:00.  Registration for the forum closes on April 25, 2008.
