A growing body of research indicates that health professionals are facing serious problems related to their mental health and wellbeing. This includes experiencing relatively high rates of burnout, depression, addiction and suicide, which has been exacerbated by a global pandemic.
Earlier this year, The Ohio State University College of Nursing Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare released a report written by the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, “A call to action: Improving clinician wellbeing and patient care and safety.” This report describes the relationship between clinician wellbeing and patient care and safety; highlights examples of evidence-informed policies and programs to improve clinician wellbeing; and provides relevant data, information, and resources. This forum will explore key findings from the report.
Speakers will discuss the state of clinician mental health before COVID-19, the impact of the pandemic and strategies to improve wellbeing among health professionals, including healthcare clinicians and the public health workforce.
Speakers include:
- Dr. Bryant Adibe, System Vice President, Chief Wellness Officer, Rush University System for Health
- Lori Criss, Director, Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services
- Dr. Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, Vice President for Health Promotion, Chief Wellness Officer, Dean and Professor, The Ohio State University College of Nursing, and Executive Director, Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare
