Mid-Ohio Farmacy Process Evaluation (phase 1)

In partnership with the Ohio Association of Foodbanks (OAF), United Healthcare contracted with the Health Policy Institute of Ohio (HPIO) to conduct this evaluation. HPIO, in collaboration with Amy Bush Stevens Consulting, designed and implemented this study with guidance from OAF and the Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC).

Mid-Ohio Farmacy (“Farmacy”) is a partnership between the MOFC and local healthcare providers that links patients to fresh produce through local food pantries. The goal of the program is to decrease food insecurity and improve nutrition security and health outcomes for food-insecure patients, leading to decreased healthcare costs and Medicaid spending.

The results of this evaluation will be used by OAF to ensure that the Farmacy model is replicated in a way that optimizes efficiency, improves health outcomes and advances equity. This report describes how Farmacy is currently being implemented, identifies critical components of the model that are key for replication and identifies opportunities to strengthen implementation of the model.
