Report: U.S. family caregivers provided $1 trillion in care in 2024

About 59 million Americans provided care for an adult family member, neighbor or friend in 2024, according to a report released this week (Source: “Family caregivers now provide $1 trillion worth of care annually, AARP finds,” CNBC, March 26).
 
The report from the AARP Public Policy Institute states that family caregivers provided 49.5 billion hours of care in 2024, representing an estimated $1.01 trillion in total economic value annually. The Public Policy Institute is the policy research arm for AARP.
 
The average hourly value for that work, AARP calculates, was $20.41 in 2024.
