Report: Nearly half of Ohio renters paying more than they can afford for housing

Nearly half of Ohio’s 1.58 million renters are paying more than they can afford for rent, a new national study found (Source: “Nearly half of Ohio’s 1.58M renters are paying more than they can afford for housing,” Cleveland Plain Dealer, March 5).
 
Across Ohio, an additional 266,000 units are needed to meet the shortage of affordable rental housing, the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio wrote in their 2026 Gap Report.
