Lifetime cost of tobacco use for average Ohioan who smokes totals nearly $4 million, new study finds

According to a new national study, the cost of smoking in the U.S. totals $600 billion each year (Source: “This is how much money smoking costs the average Ohio smoker over a lifetime,” Mahoning Matters, Jan. 17).
 
The WalletHub study found that Ohio ranks 30th in total cost of smoking. Over their lifetime, the average Ohioan who smokes spends $168,017 in out-of-pocket costs, $2,943,120 in healthcare costs and $11,828 in other costs, for a total average lifetime cost of $3,934,642.
