HPIO forum to explore aging in Ohio

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio is hosting a forum June 29 titled “Planning for an aging Ohio: Exploring policy options for investing in prevention and quality care.”

The Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University predicts that by 2020, 25% of the population in more than half of Ohio counties will be over the age of 60. This forum will explore policy options for prevention and quality care for Ohio’s aging population.

Attendees will learn about demographics and trends in Ohio’s aging population and the policies, systems and environments that promote active and healthy aging. The forum will also consider recommendations from recent national reports on financing and care for high-need, high-cost populations, and the policy change that is necessary to advance these recommendations.

Speakers at the event will include:

  • Bob Applebaum, Director, Ohio Long-Term Care Research Project, Miami University Scripps Gerontology Center
  • Colin Milner, CEO, International Council on Active Aging
  • Caryn Hederman, Project Director, Long-Term Care Financing Collaborative
  • Douglas McCarthy, Senior Research Director, The Commonwealth Fund
