HPIO brief details Ohio marketplace enrollment, premiums

The Health Policy Institute has released a new publication, titled “Ohio and the ACA: A closer look at health insurance marketplace premiums and enrollment.”

The policy brief details changes to private health insurance that came about as the result of the passage of the ACA.

After two marketplace open enrollment periods, Ohio has experienced relatively low enrollment compared to other states and its post-subsidy premiums are among the highest of states that opted to have the federal government run their exchange.

The brief explores reasons for these dynamics and offers a menu of policy considerations to address the issues.
