Ohio health centers awarded $8.5 in federal funds

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced last week that $8.5 million in ACA funds are to be awarded to 37 health centers in Ohio to expand primary care services (Source: “Ohio health centers get more than $8M grant from feds,” Associated Press via Akron Beacon Journal, Sept. 13, 2014).

The grants will be used to hire more health care workers, extend center hours and add services such as dental and vision care. Health officials say the money coming to Ohio will help health centers hire an estimated 161 new staff members to reach more than 57,000 new patients.

Nationally, HHS is awarding $295 million to fund primary care services at health centers.
