Obama reports ACA enrollment tops 8 million

President Obama announced yesterday that enrollment in ACA-created health insurance marketplaces has topped 8 million (“8 million enrolled, president announces,” Associated Press via Columbus Dispatch, April 18, 2014).

The president also said that 35 percent of enrollees in the health-care exchanges are younger than 35, suggesting that in the final weeks of enrollment, the administration managed to sign up higher numbers of younger, healthier people.

White House officials said that in the 36 states, including Ohio, where the federal government is administering marketplaces, 28 percent of sign-ups are for individuals ages 18 to 34, up from 25 percent in March.
