MetroHealth Medicaid pilot program shows signs of success
Officials at Cleveland-based MetroHealth say its experiment with Medicaid patients has yielded $50 million in savings (Source: “MetroHealth insurance experiment paying off,” WKYC-TV, April 10, 2014).
The hospital won federal approval last year of its Care Plus program that provided coverage to 28,000 uninsured Cuyahoga County residents and included efforts to better coordinate their care.
Hospital officials say the program has reduced emergency department visits by 60 percent and has increased outcomes.
