Large insurers cautious about joining state-run exchanges

The nation's largest health insurers are expressing reservation about participating in some state health insurance exchanges under the ACA, making it likely that some markets will have little or no competition next year (Source: “Analysis: Big insurers wary of entering new Obamacare markets,” Reuters, May 2, 2013).

Executives at the four largest U.S. health insurers say they are likely to sell insurance plans on less than a third of the exchanges, reluctant to venture out beyond the states where they already offer coverage.

Ohio has opted to not run its operate its own exchange and instead will be part of a federally run exchange.
