Kasich administration pushes for July 1 resolution to Medicaid expansion

Officials in the Governor’s Office of Health Transformation are warning that legislators must come to an agreement on Medicaid expansion by the end of June for the eligibility changes to be made by Jan. 1, 2014 (source: “Expansion of Medicaid unlikely to pass by Jan. 1,” Cincinnati Enquirer, May 3, 2013).

That timeline seems unlikely, however, as both the Ohio House and Senate have created subcommittees to further study the issue, with the goal of producing an alternative Medicaid expansion plan by the fall. The House subcommittee, known as the Healthier Ohio Working Group, is working with the health transformation office to craft a plan by Oct. 1.
