Ohio Senate President: No Medicaid expansion in budget plan

Ohio Senate President Keith Faber said Wednesday that the Senate’s version of the state budget will not include Gov. John Kasich’s plan for Medicaid expansion (Source: “Medicaid expansion plan takes another hit,” Associated Press via Newark Advocate, April 25, 2013).

Instead, Faber said, legislators in the Ohio House and Senate will begin working on legislation to reform Medicaid separate from the budget bill.

Meanwhile, supporters of expanding Medicaid have signaled that if the General Assembly does not expand eligibility, they will consider pursuing a statewide ballot initiative (Source: “Medicaid expansion could go on ballot,” Cincinnati Enquirer, April 26, 2013).
