Four southwestern Ohio school health centers awarded HHS funding

Four school-based health centers in southwestern Ohio were among 197 nationwide that were awarded federal funds in the latest round of Affordable Care Act grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration (Source: "HHS announces new investment in school-based health centers," HHS press release, Dec. 19, 2012).

The grants are the third and final cycle of funding designed to improve access to primary, mental and oral health care to school-age children. Six Ohio schools received funding in the first round of grants.

Ohio recipients in this round of funding are Cincinnati-based Healthcare Connection, Inc. ($49,905), City of Cincinnati Primary Care/Cincinnati Health Department($500,000) Cincinnati City School District ($500,000) and Butler County Community Health Consortium, Inc. in Hamilton ($200,000).

“Healthy children are more productive children,” said Health Resources and Services Administrator Mary K. Wakefield, in a news release. “These grants will improve access to care for children, and help maximize their potential to learn.”
