Ohio, Ky. to share prescription drug database

Officials from Ohio and Kentucky announced this week that they will work together on a pilot program to monitor “doctor shopping” in both states (Source: “Ohio, Kentucky to share prescription-drug data,” Columbus Dispatch, Aug. 11, 2011).

According to the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, the electronic Prescription Monitoring Information Exchange project aims to prevent drug-seeking behavior such as “doctor shopping,” a practice where individuals will get prescription drugs from multiple doctors in different areas.
