Sebelius says Ohio amendment wouldn't stop ACA implementation

Speaking in her hometown of Cincinnati yesterday, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius said efforts in Ohio and other states to halt the Affordable Care Act will not slow down its implementation (Source: “Sebelius: Ohio's efforts won't block health-care reform,” Coshocton Tribune, June 30, 2011).

"States really can't pre-empt federal law," Sebelius said. "I think they can make a statement. But the issue of health insurance for everyone really is a shared responsibility."

Advocacy group the Ohio Liberty Council has said that it will deliver the required signatures next week to have a constitution admendment that will block the ACA’s individual mandate put on the November statewide ballot.
