Ohio House committee OKs constitutional amendment against individual mandate

Voting along party lines, the state House Health and Aging Committee voted this week in favor of a Ohio Constitutional amendment that would enshrine the attempt to block federal requirement that most resident buy health coverage or face fines (Source: “Challenge to health law brews in Ohio House,” Columbus Dispatch, March 24, 2011).

The legislation states that "No law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in a health care system."

If passed by the full General Assembly, the amendment would then be placed on the statewide ballot in November.
