RAND study analyzes 90 payment reform programs

A new study from RAND Health that was commissioned by the National Quality Forum has identified and classified 90 payment reform programs that are either planned or are currently in place across the country (Source: “Payment-reform models analyzed,” Modern Healthcare, Feb. 23, 2011).

The nearly 300-page report classifies the programs into 19 payment models, such as global payment, medical home and accountable care organization shared savings.

“The goal of the project was to describe the performance measurement needs created by current and emerging payment reform approaches, to assess the suitability of existing performance measures to support these needs and to suggest near-term priority areas for performance measure development that would support these needs effectively going forward,” the authors wrote in the report.
