Some ACA provisions set to begin in new year

While the most significant components of the health reform law will not take effect until 2014, there are a number of key provisions that will take off in 2011 ("5 health reform goodies for 2011,” Bankrate.com, Dec. 21, 2011).
Among the provisions are:
• Free Medicare preventive care for seniors
• Closing the Medicare drug “doughnut hole”
• High-risk programs for Medicare enrollees
• Monitoring of medical loss ratios for insurers
• Requirements for more transparent nutrition reporting

The implementation timeline on the Web site for the Kaiser Family Foundation outlines a complete list of  provisions that will take effect in the new year.
