HPIO announces Ohio health care safety net research project

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio, with funding from the Anthem Foundation, has commissioned a study of Ohio’s health care safety net. The goal of the project is to enable the state to efficiently and continuously monitor its safety net services so that capacity issues can be identified more easily.

Using surveys, interviews and other data, the project will assess how well safety net services are meeting demands for care in the current economic climate and whether additional capacity could be met.

The project is being led by health economist John McAlearney, Ph.D., an assistant professor at Wright State University. McAlearney is working with an advisory group including Ohio safety net experts and Master of Public Health (MPH) students from Wright State. For more information, please contact Tim Sahr, Director of Research for the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, at 614-224-4950 or trsahr@hpio.net.
