Ohio Medicaid director resigns

Ohio Medicaid Director John Corlett has announced his resignation (Source: “State Medicaid chief resigns to return to Cleveland area,” Cleveland Plain Dealer, July 29, 2009).

Corlett was appointed Medicaid director in 2007 and presided over the expansion of Ohio’s Children’s Health Insurance Program during the 2008-2009 budget. The program is now available to all children whose parents earn up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level.

Although Corlett said he waited to resign until after the conclusion of the biennium budget process, he said the outcome of the budget process was not the reason he chose to step down and move back to his native Cleveland.

"At least from a health-care point of view, we were able to maintain our core services, and when we began down this path I wasn't so sure that was going to be the case," he said.
