Hours after being confirmed by the Senate yesterday, former Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius was sworn in as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (Source: “Sebelius sworn in as U.S. health secretary,” Washington Post/Reuters, April 28, 2009).

President Obama said Sebelius was sworn in quickly so that she could begin work on the swine flu outbreak. The Senate confirmed Sebelius in a 65-31 vote.

Sebelius is the former Kansas insurance commissioner and will lead the push for enactment of Obama’s plans for health reform.
