Columbus doctors, dentists see more need for charity services

Dentists participating in a one-day event Thursday  to provide dental care to the needy expect a long line when they open their doors (Source: “Free medical, dental services are in demand,” Columbus Dispatch, Oct. 15, 2008).

"The typical patients are those working with no insurance and come on hard times," said Dr. Joshua M. Halderman. "They know that they need something done, but have put it off because of financial concerns."

Likewise, doctors also are seeing greater interest in free services. The Physicians Free Clinic at Columbus Public Health has become busier recently. And in addition to the clinic, the 800 Columbus-area doctors, mostly specialists, who provide free care as part of the Voluntary Care Network through Access HealthColumbus are seeing increasing need for their services.
