Cincinnati-area Congressional candidates worry next president will shelf health reform

Congressional candidates from districts in the Cincinnati area expressed pessimism that the next president will be able to take up health reform, at least in the short term (Source: “Congressional candidates: Health care reform not likely in short term,” Business Courier of Cincinnati, Sept. 29, 2008).

Because of the recent financial crisis, the candidates said neither Barack Obama nor John McCain would likely be able to enact their health care plan in its entirety.

“The implosion of our financial system almost renders these plans a moot point,” said independent David Krikorian, a challenge in Ohio’s 2nd District. “They’re not going to be implemented. We’re facing an enormous economic crisis here.”

Added Democrat Steve Driehaus, a challenge in Ohio’s 1st District, “I think we’re going to see incremental change, not dramatic change.”
