Survey finds Americans cutting back on health care, not insurance

According to a survey from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, 22 percent of Americans say they’re cutting back on doctor visits in an effort to save money (Source: “Americans cut out health care,” Columbus Dispatch, Aug. 19, 2008).

The survey, conducted in July, also found that 11 percent of Americans have cut back on the number or prescription drugs they are taking or have cut their dosage. However, just 3 percent of those surveyed canceled their health insurance policy, and only 2 percent reduced coverage.
