State to fund six local commissions on minority health

Six Ohio health districts have been awarded state funds to create local commissions on minority health (Source: “Agency to receive state funding for minority health commission,” Youngstown Vindicator, July 22, 2008).

The state’s decision to fund the local commissions means groups and organizations in Youngstown, Akron, Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus and Dayton must apply for funding with the local entity rather than the state commission on minority health. The hope is that the local commissions will be better able to determine the needs of minorities in their geographic area.
