Ohio ranks in top 5 states for health care venture capital firms

A survey conducted by health care research firm BioEnterprise found that Ohio has the fifth-most health care venture capital firms in the nation, and the most of any state not on the East or West coasts (Source: “Between coasts, Ohio leads in health care venture firms,” Cleveland Plain-Dealer, June 11, 2008).

The survey, which used Dow Jones Venture Source data, found 27 offices in the state, with nearly two-thirds located in the Northeastern Ohio. The relatively high number of health-related venture capital firms is credited in part to the Ohio Capital Fund, a program created by the Ohio General Assembly that provides incentives to venture capital firms that open up shop in the state.
