Ohio is one of the leading states in health care venture firms

According to BioEnterprise, Ohio is one of the top five states for having health care venture firms as of the week of May 5, 2008 (Source: "Between coasts, Ohio leads in health care venture firms, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, May 15, 2008).  Its analysis found that Ohio has 27 health care venture firm offices in Ohio.  Ohio's Third Frontier Project and Ohio Captial Fund have both helped to support and develop such ventures.

In April, The Ohio Capital Fund allocated $25 million in new commitments to four venture funds that invest in early stage science and information technolgoy companies.  According to Paul Cohn, the Fund's managing director, "While Ohio is attracting investment in other economic sectors, over 80 percent of our commitments involve venture capital firms with a focus in part on investments in health care because health science investors recognize the strategic value of an Ohio location."
