Ohio House to hold hearing on sick leave bill

"A mandatory sick-days proposal apparently will get a hearing after it gathered dust for more than a month since a coalition of labor supporters obtained enough signatures to put it before the legislature." (Source: "Sick-days plan to get a hearing," Columbus Dispatch, Feb. 21, 2008.) House Speaker Jon Husted's promised yesterday to give the bill a hearing, which would require companies with 25 or more employees to offer full-time workers at least seven sick days per year. If the legislature does not pass the bill by May 8, the initiative's backers will have to gather an additional 120,683 signatures of registered voters to put the issue on the Nov. 4 ballot.
