Forum: The Real Problems and Prospects for Health Reform

In a forum at the Columbus Metropolitan Club on February 13, Jeffrey C. Bauer of ACS Healthcare Solutions discussed "What the Candidates Aren't Telling Us: The Real Problems and Prospects for Health Reform." Bauer, a nationally recognized health futurist and medical economist, believes that health care spending as a percentage of the gross domestic product has essentially tapped out at around 17%. In his view, this means that in order to solve the health care problems in the United States, individuals must become more fiscally and physically responsible for their health and providers must assume that health spending has stopped growing. In addition, any future progress and improvements to the nation's health care system depends on reducing the amount of waste in system. To download a PDF of his presentation, go here. The forum was underwritten by Nationwide and presented in partnership with the Health Policy Institute of Ohio.
