Independent community hospital in talks to join University Hospitals of Cleveland

One of the few remaining independent community hospitals in the Cleveland area, Medina General Hospital, has signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue an affiliation with University Hospitals of Cleveland, a major health care system. (Source: Akron Beacon and Crain's Cleveland Business articles, Sept. 12, 2007).  Medina General is a 139-bed hospital with over a 1,000 employees; over the last year the hospital has been in talks about partnership opportunities with several health care systems, including the Cleveland Clinic, Summa Health System in Akron, and Akron General Medical Center.
