In 2014, Ohio expanded Medicaid eligibility to adults between the ages of 19-64 who earn less than 138% of the federal poverty level (FPL). Over 770,000 Ohioans now have healthcare coverage through Medicaid expansion. The federal reimbursement rate for this group is 90%.
The biennial state budget currently under consideration by the Ohio General Assembly contains a provision that would discontinue payments for healthcare services for people in Medicaid expansion group if the federal reimbursement rate for Medicaid expansion drops below 90%. At the same time, the U.S. Congress is deliberating on legislation that would drastically reduce Medicaid spending.
This webinar explores research on Medicaid expansion on Ohio, based on preliminary findings from HPIO’s ongoing 2025 Ohio Medicaid Expansion Study. Speakers will highlight the impact that eliminating Medicaid expansion could on Ohioans, the state budget and the state’s economy.
