Ohio Medicaid expansion fact sheet: Impact on Ohioans earning less than 100 percent FPL (May 2013) A fact sheet (pdf, 2 pages) examining the impact of Medicaid expansion on Ohioans earning less than 100 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL), including county level projections of uninsured adults without dependent children, a population that would have no access to subsidized health coverage without the expansion. The fact sheet is released as part of the Ohio Medicaid Expansion Study, a research partnership between the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, the Ohio State University, Regional Economic Models, Inc., and the Urban Institute.

Ohio Medicaid expansion fact sheet: The impact of not expanding Medicaid in Ohio (April 2013) A fact sheet (pdf, 2 pages) examining the impact on Ohio of not expanding Medicaid eligibility. Most data in the fact sheet comes from the Ohio Medicaid Expansion Study, a research partnership between the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, the Ohio State University, Regional Economic Models, Inc., and the Urban Institute.

Ohio Insurance Basics: A closer look at trends in employer-sponsored insurance (ESI)  (April 2013)  A two-page fact sheet (pdf) with information on trends in employer-sponsored health coverage in Ohio, health premiums and employer share of costs. Much of the information in the fact sheet is taken from HPIO's Ohio Insurance Basics.

Looking Ahead: Understanding Telehealth in Ohio (April 2013) A policy brief (pdf, 18 pages) that provides an introduction to telehealth and an overview of the national and state telehealth policy landscape. A 2-page executive summary also is available.

Expanding Medicaid in Ohio: County-level analysis part 2: Local economic impact on employment and general sales tax revenues (March 2013) A policy brief (pdf, 12 pages) detailing projections of coverage effects for each county, as well as fiscal effects. The brief was created as part of the Ohio Medicaid Expansion Study, a research partnership between the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, the Ohio State University, Regional Economic Models, Inc., and the Urban Institute.

Expanding Medicaid in Ohio: Analysis of likely effects (February 2013) a policy brief (pdf, 24 pages) that summarizes the results of an independent analysis of potential Medicaid expansion in Ohio. The study was conducted by a research partnership between the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, the Ohio State University, Regional Economic Models, Inc., and the Urban Institute. Ohio Public Health Basics (January 2013) A policy brief (pdf, 29 pages) that examines public health in Ohio, with sections on how public health is structured and funded at the state and local levels in Ohio; public health's role in improving population health and controlling health care costs; and public health priorities for the 21st Century. Update on Ohio’s options for health insurance exchanges (October 2012) A policy brief (pdf, 8 pages) that updates Ohio's options for planning for health insurance exchanges under the ACA in 2014.

Ohio Insurance Basics (October 2012) A policy brief (pdf, 18 pages) that examines access to health insurance in Ohio, with sections on how Ohioans are covered, health insurance regulation, plan design, and regulatory changes to private insurance in the ACA. An introduction to 'essential health benefits': Ohio’s role in determining services covered by insurance post-2014 (August 2012) A policy brief (pdf, 6 pages) that outlines Ohio's options for setting standards for "essential health benefits" that small-group and individual insurance plans will have to offer starting in 2014 as part of the Affordable Care Act.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on the Affordable Care Act: A review of the decision and its impact on Ohio (July 2012) A policy brief (pdf, 8 pages) summarizing the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, with analysis of state options for expanding Medicaid coverage under the health reform law.

Public Health Futures: Considerations for a new framework for local public health in Ohio

Recognizing the need to respond to current financial and political challenges and to propose new approaches to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of local public health in Ohio, AOHC established the Public Health Futures Project in 2011 to explore new ways to structure and fund local public health. AOHC contracted with HPIO to conduct research, facilitate a consensus-building process among members, and prepare the final report. The final report was delivered to the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners Public Health Futures Steering Committee on June 15, 2012.

The report, which was made possible through the support of the HealthPath Foundation of Ohio, includes sections that describe data sets that can help measure family violence in Ohio, results across counties and recommendations for improving data collection.
