Re:       e-health projects

As requested, I am submitting a brief summary of my current e-health project: Using clinical information systems at the point of care (CIS@POC).  I have a funded HRSA grant to implement a clinical information system in the technology learning center at The Ohio State University College of Nursing.  The specific project objectives are to:

1.      Establish, within the skills lab used by undergraduate Ohio State University (OSU) students, a state of the art and electronic clinical information system at the “bedside”.  This system will support standardized case scenarios used within the medical surgical suite of courses, including those that utilize the various mannequins and simulators available in the lab

2.      Enhance the informatics knowledge and skills of the faculty who teach in the undergraduate medical/surgical courses.

3.      Strengthen the informatics content and technology use in the BSN curriculum.

4.      Graduate BSN students who possess at least the beginning level nurse informatics competencies at the end of their program.

5.      Improve undergraduate and practicing registered nurses access to and use of patient and reference information at the point of care in the medical-surgical and critical care areas of the OSUH.

6.      Expand educational resources related to informatics and technology within the OSU College of Nursing.

Barriers

Lack of a production level CIS tailored for education

Limited number of virtual simulators available in healthcare

Needs

            True partnership with vendor selected
